Parent meeting minutes 1/4/09
Present at the meeting:

Principal's announcements:
There is a schedule change on the school calendar.
There will be school on February 1, but not on February 8.
Draudzigais Aicinajums is scheduled for March 29. The school will be singing and dancing.
The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes are asked to do readings during the church services, as long as the parents agree. The readings will be split between two students each Sunday.
A planning for next year's school year should take place in the next months.
The school is seeking a principal for the next school year.
Treasurer's announcements:
The school brought in over $600 at the Eglite. After expenses are accounted for, the remaining profit will be donated to the Centrs.
Several people heard positive feedback regarding the Eglite.
Other discussion points:
For Draudzigais Aicinajums, the school will plan a meal of soup and sandwiches and salads. The event will start at 11:30 am.
A brief discussion was started regarded students bringing friends to Latvian School for a day. A date for this was not determined.
Next parent meeting will be February 1.
Parent meeting minutes 12/7/08
Present at the meeting:

Principal's announcements:
Next Sunday (Eglite), parents are needed to set up tables starting at 9:30 am.
Program practices will start at 10:30 am. The school will not be attending the church service.
The Eglite starts at 12:00 pm, however, people from church may start arriving at 11:45 am for coffee.
In case of inclement weather, Diana, Ingrida, and Ilze will notify parents if school is cancelled.
The Christmas bells made by the students and letters written by the students are ready and will be distributed to church members in Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids (over age of 85). Thank you to everyone who helped with this project. These gifts are in lieu of teacher gifts from students this year.
Treasurer's report:
Volunteers will be needed some time before the end of the school year to do a review of the books.
Reminders about Eglite:
All families need to bring a dessert (at least 20 servings) next Sunday. Please keep in mind child/adult are requested.
Parents who don't teach should plan on helping in the kitchen Sunday morning or help set up tables and chairs. The meat and sauerkraut will need to be heated. Bread and salad will also be on the menu.
All families will need to help with clean up after the Eglite.
Other:
Ilze reminded the group that a new principal and parent committee president are needed for the next school year. By majority vote, the Eglite will be held on Sunday next year, the same as this year.

The last board meeting minutes from 9/14/08 were approved.
Principal's announcements:
A revised school calendar was distributed. Special dates to note:
November 16 event - begins at noon (Diana will notify KLB)
students will participate with dancing, please wear folk costumes
December 14 - Eglite at noon
March 29 - Draudzigais Aicinajums at noon
October 19 - no church service
May 1 - izlaidums at 6:30 pm
Treasurer's report:
A two year review of the school's financial activity was passed out.
School tuition and salaries will remain the same as last year.
(Tution is $250 per student)
3. Parent board president announcements:
The school will pay Larisa Melbardis and Marisa Kaugars salaries monthly.
Per Sam Knochs, the school will get internet access free from the
Latvian Credit Union.
Sam Knochs has found a TV stand/cart on EBay. He has a bid in and will
go pick up the cart. The school will reimburse him mileage for this.
For the eglite, the school will s the students will make gifts to give to
church members (Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids churches) over age 85.
The
gifts will be bells made of clay.erve a hot meal. Details to still be
decided.
As discussed in the last meeting, Arnolds Ruperts will determine which
Grand Rapids members are over age 85.
Arnolds Ruperts will be Ziemsvetku vecitis at the Eglite this year.
The next soup day at the Kalamazoo church is on November 23.
Students
purchasing soup should make a donation.

Principal announcements:
Regarding the school calendar -
Eglite will be on Sunday, December 14 at noon
On September 27 there will be no school for grades 5 and below
In 2009, school will resume on January 4 after the holidays
The November 18th event this year marks the 90th independence day anniversary. Diana suggested someone organize an activity for the children at the event.
The event will be on Sunday, November 16.
In lieu of teacher gifts at Christmas, Diana suggested the students make cards and small gifts to give to elderly members of the church. This will be done during school.
Parent board president announcements:
The Pone family has donated a video player and videos to the
school. Ilze suggested the school purchase a cart for the player.
Sam Knochs is looking into this and will try to find one not to exceed $150.
Ilze has information on Bernu zurija, which is a program from Latvia that includes a series of books to read. Children read the books and answer questions about the books on the internet. The books are provided free.
Ilze asked if someone can volunteer to look into how internet can be accessed at the school. Karlis Vizulis volunteered to assist with an internet hub.
A checklist for cleaning duties was passed around. All families responsible for cleaning duty should use this checklist.
A form was passed around for parents to complete for each child in school. It includes a medical authorization. Please return this completed form to Ilze.
There are three small tables at the school that are not needed.
If someone wants them, they are available for a small donation.
